Tony Hirving, BSc (Hons), MRes (Clin.) - a practising Registered Dietitian and nutrition and health consultant with many years of clinical experience in helping people look after their health. I completed a Masters in Clinical Research at King's College London in 2014 and focus on research that has clear benefit for patients. My previous research includes exploration of factors that influence engagement with resources for supporting service users in the management of their weight: Black male views on weight and health.
I also conducted a study of the Experiences and perceptions of black and south Asians accessing talking therapy services for treatment of depression and anxiety. Somewhat outside of my area of expertise, but that research
excellently illustrated the importance of people feeling that they are being listened to and understood by the clinician. Listening to my patients and clients is the best way for me to go about helping them.
Actively looking after my own health is important to me and I enjoy sharing what I know about the best way of doing this. What we consider good for us today can change, in accordance with new evidence or a better understanding of information available to us, and so keeping up to date on the management of various health conditions is essential - I achieve this by reading research papers, talking to colleagues, attending conferences, etc.
I am a member of the British Dietetic Association and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, and a recognised provider for Aviva, AXA, Bupa, Cigna, CS Healthcare, PruHealth and Simplyhealth.
